Royal Munich
(Distance approx. 7-11 km)
After Bavaria was established as kingdom already in 1806, especially Ludwig I., who was crown prince from 1810 and king from 1825, devoted himself for more than 30 years to the city’s architectonical design in the spirit of classicism. During this time the King’s Square (Königsplatz) was created as well as the Ludwigstrasse, Munich’s first boulevard, the Odeon’s Square (Odeonsplatz) with the Theatiner Church (Theatinerkirche), the Victory Gate (Siegestor) and the old art museum (Alte Pinakothek), which was at the time of completion the largest museum building in the world. Later more boulevards including the Brienner Strasse, the Prinzregentenstrasse with the Prince Regent Theatre (Prinzregententheater) and the Maximilianstrasse constructed in - “Maximilian’s Style” – were added. In 1852 Munich received with its 100.000 residents the “city-status” and underwent a rapid economic, cultural and urbanistic increase in prosperity during this time.
With this route we won’t exclusively run through the city on paved roads, but will also run through the English Garden, Maximilian’s parks and along the river Isar.
