Isar-Tour (Distance approx.
11 km, shorter on request)
The Isar-Tour is the most challenging of all tours: It's the longest one and there are virtually no traffic lights to catch one’s breath.
We start at Mueller’s public pool (Müllerschen Volksbad) and run straight across the German Museums courtyard! We continue along the recently renatured Isar. The municipal arboretum with poison, spice and rose garden is, depending on the season, an extraordinary experience for your eyes and nose. We pass the Isar’s high banks with its old brewery cellars at left hand side and enjoy nature until we reach the Hellabrunn Zoo, almost one century old.
Now we cross the wooden bridge on the left side of the Isar passing the former Thalkirchner train station and head towards Flaucher with its beer garden in the former forester’s and hunter’s lodge. On the way back we look at the close-by slaughterhouse district. Jogging along a city brook we reach the old Southern Cemetery (Südfriedhof) with its distinctive charm. From the architect Friedrich Bürklein to the painter Carl Spitzweg – many famous personalities are buried here. The last kilometer leads us through the “In”-district Glockenbach and Gardner’s Square Quarter and past the Victuals Market (Viktualienmarkt) back to the starting point.
