English Garden
(Distance approx. 7 bis 10 km)
The English Garden in Munich covers an area of about four square kilometers and is ranked amongst the world’s ten largest urban parks – even before New York’s Central Park. We run through the more than 200 years old park and observe the most important sights like the Chinese Tower (Chinesischer Turm) or the Monopteros. At the same time we “run” through the English Gardens’ history, from the foundation of the city park to the interim industrial utilization by factories. Finally we take a detour to the adjacent areas: the University Riding School, to Maximilian’s parks with the Angel of Peace (Friedensengel) and Maximilianeum, to the Nazi art museum ("Haus der Deutschen Kunst") and Mueller’s public pool (Müllersches Volksbad) - almost everything out in the open green areas without any traffic lights.
The individual tour stations are: Odeon’s Square (Odeonsplatz), the Court Garden (Hofgarten), the Bavarian State Chancellery, the House of Art (Haus der Kunst), the Japanese Tea House, the University Riding School, the Kleinhesseloh lake, the Chinese Tower (Chinesischer Turm), the Monopteros, the Angel of Peace (Friedensengel), the Maximilianeum, Mueller’s public pool (Müllerschen Volksbad), the German Museum and across the Victuals Market (Vikutalienmarkt) back to the starting point – this tour is extendable on request.
